Welcome friend. Somehow, in this small corner of the internet, we meet. Me and you. Reader and Reader. Some might say it’s algorithms, but I say it’s kismet. The original universal algorithm.
Subverse Reads is a community of book lovers. This is a place to think deeply and be entertained. It is written by me, Natalie, the Barbara Streisand of Books (a triple threat!). Reading for a living is difficult, so my day job is spreadsheets, passive-aggressive emails, and hand-holding. I love jeans that I can actually sit in, and my goal in life is to achieve the perfect liquid line. I don’t get high unless it’s on collecting weird book covers. I love art of all kinds, but especially the kind I was raised on (library books, scary movies, and cable TV). I am especially fond of lit fic & classics, crime & horror, and the spooky & macabre. I live in Southern California with my husband, where we enjoy being slightly goth in all types of weather. We don’t have human children yet, just two perfect cats, Minnie & Rizzie.
As Lorelai Gilmore once said, I can be flexible. As long as everything is exactly the way I want it, I'm totally flexible.
what your club membership gets you
I send a free [almost] weekly newsletter that can contain anything from curated book lists, recommendations, and reviews, to whatever reading-related thing is going on in my brain that week + happenings in the book world, what I’ve been reading & watching, plus links to other good things on the internet.
I also write occasional book-ish and personal essays for paying subscribers. This one is a personal fav I gave away for free. Note: if you are struggling financially in any way or are a fellow book/culture writer and want to swap subscriptions, send me a direct message or respond to any email.
I love to discuss - writing into the void can be SO boring - so always leave a comment if so compelled. Or connect with me on Instagram @subversereads - it’s way chill over there.
Join me in curating your moody [pop]cultured reading lifestyle.
Sound fun?
See you around the bookshelf!
