No book recommendations but for people of a certain age (Boomers and Jones Generation) will really enjoy “Unfrosted” on Netflix. It’s a fictional version of how Pop Tarts were invented and has lots and lots of 60’s references. Very refreshing and non political. A palate cleanser if you will.

I hate starting a new book in public too. I feel like I’m being judged 😂 Thanks for sharing my newsletter 💕

“Hjorth uses constant repetition of distinct phrases to give the feeling we are marching in circles, getting closer to understanding the trauma at the center, piquing our curiosity about the events but also the mental stability of our narrator.” This is so well said & spot on and I’m realizing it applies perfectly to her newer Is Mother Dead, too, about an artist’s relationship with her elderly mother— if you’re liking Will & Testament I’d recommend that one as well!

That kitty❤️ I have a 14 year old black cat, they are so special, I'm glad you found a home for that sweetie. Enjoyed reading about your day! I'm finishing up July listening to Open Throat by Henry Hoke, it's weird but I'm really liking it

The way you describe beach napping is exactly perfect. Time becomes nothing, and it truly is like living in a world with a filter. I get the best naps outside on beaches or by pools.

I feel like I am now going to worry about looking like I don’t read the next time I start a book in public HAHA new insecurity unlocked. I loved this piece so much, start to finish. I didn’t know anything about Longlegs and now I REALLY want to watch it!!!

What a lovely read!! I love to hear how much you’re enjoying W&T - I loooooved the way you described it briefly, just perfect! And thrilled to hear you saved Ozzie and gave them and new home, what a Good Samaritan you are!

Ps I also feel more of a need to push The Argonauts off the eternal tbr and into my basket bc of the (dumb) NYT list!

We can’t escape that damn list!!! lol and W&T is amazing, I wrote a whole notebook page of notes yesterday 😂

I'll second The Argonauts. It's a book that really defies classification - it's memoir and criticism and also some fiction, too. It's really well done and Maggie Nelson ties all the disparate themes together with ease.

Currently racing through the ACOTAR series, I’m also pushing through Shadow and Bone (it’s pretty good so far, ACOTAR just has me too distracted)

I really liked Shadow and Bone!! I did not finish ACOTAR but there is a part of me that wants to try again...

Honestly it’s goofy and fun, and the first book is the worst one. If you can push through the first half it gets pretty entertaining

I’m reading Jill Ciment’s new memoir Consent and it’s intense. If you haven’t read her before, I highly recommend her novel The Body in Question. It’s compact but really packs a punch, and it’s about two jurors on a murder case who start an affair! So good!

Chonky boy. Haha. You had me *crying* with the rescue and forgotten ice cream. Enjoy The Argonauts— it’s so good. I gave it away (lent, same thing) at some point and I need to replace!

Jellybean/Ozzie! 😍 What a way to end the weekend!

I've seen a couple of interviews with Keanu about the new book and it's adorable how excited he is about it. Makes me want to read it based of that alone! Longlegs looks so bizarre. I've heard mixed things but they've all been from strangers on the internet, so I trust you the most.

I don't know how you get up from sweet angel baby...I wanna rub my face in that belly!

i mean it IS bizarre but I was enthralled!!! and oh my heart with Jellybean!!

Keanu is the kindest human on the planet we should all show up for him just because.
