So impressed by how a lot of the books you’ve loved this year are so BIG! She’s having a big book year!!! I can’t wait to read The Morning Star later this year. AND hot off the press - I literally just read & finished On Earth As It Is Beneath so you can have that review to look forward too 😉

I tend to be swayed to love books the longer I’m in them I just can’t help it!! I’m off trying to read a million books per year so it’s given me permission to read the good stuff and I love that for me. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts and if it’s worth my time it looks so sinister!!

ooooooh lots of goodies for my tbr list - I loved Fever Dream. I listened to it on audio and it was soooo deliciously disturbing.

Not to tempt you to buy another book... but I'm 20% into Fox and knowing what I know of your taste, I feel it'd be right up your alley. Dark & disturbing-- yes but also very thought-provoking and compelling so far.

if you liked ‘no one is talking about this’ you must get to ‘priest daddy’!! (having a brief laugh at this sequence of words), the writing is good and it will definitely make you laugh. she’s such an excellent writer, i’m so looking forward to her third book.

I’m also mad I spent money on Girls Against God, but I at least didn’t finish it so I didn’t spend too much time on it

I had to finish just so I could disparage it on the internet lol

Fox is SO good but damn is it dark. I devoured it in 3 days, JCO is a master of her craft.

I also really loved Sour Cherry, a great fairy tale meets domestic violence novel.

I'm having such bad FOMO with Fox that I MIGHT HAVE TO PURCHASE A HARDCOVER

Reading Sour Cherry now and its so different but I'm enjoying it!

Three cheers for Samanta Schweblin! I’m so curious about reading her novel after having only spent time with her short fiction…. The new Patricia Lockwood is also highhhhh up on my anticipated list. Here’s to more good reading in the second half of the year!

Cat covers por vida!

My favorite place to read in the summer is on our front porch (if it isn’t too hot) or on the jetty where Joe fishes. Ocean on either side of me, waves crashing. Doesn’t get better than that for me!

The best book I’ve read this year was The Black Jacobins by C.L.R. James. For non-fiction and Flesh by David Szalay for fiction.

Most looking forward to read this summer is IF YOU ARE SEEING THIS ITS MEANT FOR YOU by Leigh Stein. (Drops in August!) 💘
