Having the TV wheeled in during the 5th grade was epic!!! Never forget that! Plus what a great review on those books and movies I LOVED Eileen and LTWB as well!!

I saw a friend posted that Leave The World Behind was a waste of time because nothing was ever answered. But when I saw it (haven’t read it), I understood. The movie was about not knowing. Just like us in the early days of the pandemic.

Yes exactly! It’s interesting that someone would find it a waste of time

DELICIOUS kitty pics! they certainly seem to be adjusting well ☺️.

I must admit, I skipped over your take on Leave the World Behind, because I read the book and I intend to watch the movie, probably next week sometime.

I’m not a huge movie watcher (like you, I tend to check my phone a lot). I saw Barbie this year, but I didn’t fall over myself loving on it the way so many others did.

A new year’s chonker is actually a great idea. I’m currently taking a short book break to catch up on all my magazines, though I am still reading Possession on my Kindle before bed. (For some reason lately I have a day book and a before bed book; the day book has been a lot of health and recovery related stuff for me, but we’ll see what I pick next 🤔. I got a few books for Solstice, including the book Monsters: A Fan’s Dilemma by Claire Dederer. Have you heard of it?).

I realized I was doing my community a disservice by not sharing the 100 pictures I’ve taken of the kittens so Break for cats was born. 😂. If you watch the movie come back and let me know what you think!! Even if you hate it.

Barbie was a hit for me because I saw it with my best friend of 20 years in a theater FULL of women and the sobs at the montage after she decides to be human were audible. Everyone laughed and cried and cheered it was oddly special.

I often have a day book and night book because my night book needs to be easy or soothing! I started Monsters on audio but it was too esoteric for that format ( I think). I want to try again in print. It’s gotten amazing reviews. Have you started, is it any good?

I love this!! I haven’t seen Eileen yet, I was excited for it, now I’m even more excited! I love your analysis especially on the clothes (how wonderful is it that such ordinary things can hold such significance?)

I did see Leave the World Behind because I loved Mr. Robot from Sam Esmail and I did really enjoy it but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the teeth that scene haunts me

Thank you for the reviews & of course the cat pics!! <3

Rave review of Eileen!! I’ve never read the book but really want to see the film. Should I read it before or after????! Also pls read The Bee Sting I want to know from a trusted source how that book genuinely is and whether I should read it for myself.

The Everything I know About Love show is so good! It came out in the UK maybe a year ago now? A lot of the details have changed from book to screen because book is about real people and events and they’ve altered or removed some for the show to protect people. BUT nevertheless it’s a wonderful adaptation and completely holds up to the book. I’d completely recommend I think you’d love it. If I remember right I cried about 35 times x love the adorable cat content to see out the newspaper! Have a WONDERFUL Christmas and an indulgent 12 days off Natalie! Go crazy xox

Ps have you watched Saltburn? Speaking of films it’s just come out on Amazon Prime today and I am....intrigued

I think in this case, unless you really love Moshfegh’s books, just go straight to the movie! And I’m honored you trust me enough to give you the real reviews!!

I can see why they would change some of Everything I Know - it’s so personal!! But so wonderful I’ll have to check it out. Saltburn is on my list too. I’ll report back. And thank you Martha you too!!! Cheers!! 🖤

YAY! Kitty content! 😍

I love Anne Hathaway, especially as she’s grown older, and Eileen looked interesting but didn’t know if I’d enjoy it bc I don’t enjoy Ottessa Moshfegh’s books at all.

I loved Leave The World Behind. It was eerie and realistic in a way that made me contemplate becoming a doomsday planner. lol also 🫠

I’m currently reading Getting Lost by Annie Ernaux. It’s not great. Probably not going to finish it. The sex stuff is fun but other than that she seems sadly desperate for a guy she’s having an affair with. I was reading Anaïs Nin’s memoirs & erotica as a teenager so that’s probably why I’m bored with this book as a grown adult. No one writes about an affair quite like Anaïs.

I think I’m going to dive right into To Walk The Night by William Sloane.

Wishing you the coziest holiday with your husband!

I haven’t read either Ernaux or Nin but I have it in my mind Nin is like Duras so I’ve always been intrigued (I could be wildly wrong on that comparison). I love that you loved World Behind you passed the test lol but I fully understand not liking Moshfegh she’s a bit like soured milk sometimes. Happy holidays to you as well book friend! 🖤

If you like Duras you’ll love Nin. Duras is a bit drier, Nin more tender. I love both. Henry and June is wonderful to start with and one of my favorite books in life. (As is The Lover by Duras.) It is Nin’s diary of the year she spent with Henry Miller and his wife in Paris. It makes you want to wring everything you can out of life and love.

I desperately needed movie recs for the week ahead—not Christmasy ones!—so thanks especially for Leave the World Behind. I really want to see it but I haven’t read the book first (and I have 12 ebooks and literally 50 physical books cued up ahead of it—help!) Suggestion? Movie first? Or then I’ll never read it?

You can fully watch the movie first and still get something out of the book if you later wanted to read!

Cha-ching! (I think that was the answer I wanted?)
