Glad you are safe! As trite as it sometimes sounds, the phrase ‘we take care of each other’ has been bouncing around my head. The level of community support has been inspiring to watch and I agree, does seem like a possible antidote to Sower’s grimness.
I appreciate this! I’m almost completely off social media (since mid-November) so I’m not seeing everything you are; I value the summary and reflections in Substacks and longer journalism pieces/podcasts. Thanks for doing what you do!
Right on with your fuck-off! I respectfully offer one suggestion. As long as you know you are safe from fire, disconnect from all digital and media. It is reaching new levels of insanity. Read and write and give your remaining attention to loved ones, including cats!
I know you are right, and yet a part of me feels like I have to witness it. But getting it out here helps and now I can focus on what I can control (giving back) 🖤
Wow how beautifully said… we need more people like you getting straight to the point and also virtue signaling does absolutely nothing… ‘voicing who’s upset the most and who’s the most hurt and devastated is not help’ it’s reminds me Of the person at the funeral who’s ’most upset’ and ‘no one can possibly understand MY pain, no one’s hurting as much as I am.’ It’s look at me no one’s as hurt or upset as me. It’s as if selfishly ur saying ‘don’t forget about me during all this hell on earth. U wanna help, show how sad and hurt you are, go help rebuild a home, go donate ur time and talk to and LISTEN to those who have lost everything. At the least give them some of ur time. The first step in being a community is acting like one. It’s so sad how it takes tragedies, horrific tragedies to bring us together. To make us think of others or even put others before ourselves.
So good, Natalie— I am so glad you are safe. Have been thinking a lot about Parable of the Sower in these times. Thanks for putting words and sense to my tangle of thoughts. 💗

I’ve had to stop reading comments people are so out of pocket!
Truly the worst of humanity giving their awful opinion!
Thank you for this and including my post. Big hugs.
The biggest 🖤🖤

You are so right! It’s been heartwarming to say the least
It’s wild that people not being terrible is the bar here, but it has been gratifying to see people rise above and help others.

Wow that’s impressive to be off! Do you feel like your mental health has improved?

Get ready to be pet foster parents if there is ever a natural disaster in our neck of the woods!! 🖤

Thank you, and glad it helped with your thoughts because I certainly had to take days and lots of rewrites to get the feelings right 🖤
So glad to hear that you're safe! I read Parable of the Sower back in 2021 and it keeps on feeling more and more prescient with every year...
