Absolutely LOVED hearing about your experience meeting Don Winslow. You look so happy in the photo!! Loved that he found success at 50! It truly is never too late. I read his wiki page and his writing process sounds like a dream...except for the early start time. (I love staying up late.) Can't get over how good he looks! Those 6-7 mile daily hikes are paying off! I also loved that he remained dedicated to writing throughout his life no matter what odd jobs he had to take. His tenacity is inspiring AF. Reading about Don made me want to re-watch Savages.
Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter sounds gruesome.
As always, your newsletters are the highlight of my week, Natalie!!! ❤️🔥
I have a fat crush on that man he was such a spark of intelligence and confidence. anyways... lol ITS NEVER TOO LATE! thank god. Thanks for being someone in my corner always!! ;)
Love that Piranesi ranked 1!!!! I still need to read a Keegan but idk where to start! Was ‘Small Things Like These’ your first of hers? Also vote East of Eden but really I want to read that with you at a similar time so if you can just let me know when you pick it up that would be GREAT 😉 I was planning to read it May/June time myself.
And this is so funny because I’m reading ‘What I’d rather not think about’ literally right now (it’s in my hand!!!) Big themes of suicide and siblings done in an interesting way. I’ll let you know when I finish - but rn it’s marginally reminding me of ‘Will and Testament’ that I remember you saying you wanted to read! Deeply flattered at the empowering comment, I aim to never stop!! You can tackle it!! xx
Ok East of Eden I am ready when you are!! May sounds good to me, nice and spring-ish to read about all the farming haha. Yes really want to hear your thoughts on What Id Rather, it seems heavy and that it might take skill to pull off. :)
Lmao spring read all about farming Hahahha - I’m prepared. I will lyk when I pick it up!!!! Yes I agree - I think the book being made up of vignettes really tackles the heavy elements in a way that makes them not as heavy to read? Those are my thoughts so far.
Snap!!! 💙 her approach is very interesting. I feel like I’m *almost* reading it too fast I’m trying to slow down to really stew on the atmosphere she’s created with her words. Vignettes are like that aren’t they? Rapid in nature!
Dying to know what it’s like read in Dutch - so many of my bilingual friends say that books lose something in the translation - I speak Afrikaans (baby dutch) so may give the dutch version a go too
I’ve loved watching your journey with Piranesi these last few months! And I’m so glad to hear that post resonated ☺️ more (continuously) talking up the books we love 🎉
Just finished The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel (wait, is that her name? I’m blanking!). I didn’t love it at first but it really grew on me about 1/4 in. I want to check out Station Eleven too; I think you’ve recommended that one before, yes?
Recently downloaded Christine Blasey Ford’s memoir and I really want to start Monsters soon by Claire Dederer. Just trying to play catch up both on an online training course I’m taking and on my fat stack of magazines before I crack open a new book.

Give it a go and you can compare the two! Would be so cool and I’d equally like to know what it’s like to read in Dutch!
Thanks for the list of enjoyable reads! I'm subscribing to your posts!

Eeeeep I may be the only personal in the world then who did not enjoy Piranesi 😬
well it IS weird!! I was surprised it was so beloved as well, honesty. I'm curious to know what you didn't love!
It was too weird frim the beginning to really get into - felt a little too ‘fantasy’ and I think I was bored
fair - if Piranesi wasnt such an interesting character to me I probably would have been bored too
Congrats on meeting a hero - what a thrill!
