Hell yeah I LOVE to see 'Time of the Flies' on here!!!! The premise of this book sounds so wild I'm all over it. Can't wait to acquaint myself with the FFF business. Also the dead fly on the cover is frankly iconic x disgusting and alluring all at the same time!
I admire you making a list because every time I have tried I've become incredibly overwhelmed as there are too many lol. For my sake I should keep track though. That is to say I am also very VERY much looking forward to 'James" by Percival Everett - he is so whip smart in his writing everything of his I have read I admire a lot. I'm also equally stoked for 'The Ministry of Time'!!!!! Not heard of 'Your Utopia' tho which sounds very interesting so thank you!
Thanks for the energy you put into this. I am also looking forward to Come and Get It. This is the year of Messy Academia and I (also a major university employee) am here for it. Greta and Valdin was not on my radar but... Schitt's Creek as a book? I need that!
A professor told us during a MFA lecture that people who have more books end up living longer because they're trying to read all of these books. I have yet to find the actual scientific evidence of this, but am taking that on faith all the same. Going to live forever!!
I’m currently reading the guest, the empire of pain and the third game of thrones books. All very good!! On deck for me is a book I saw in the bookstore yesterday “you dreamed of empires” sounds very good!
Can I be honest? As a diehard Tana French fan (only author I'm a completist of possibly?), you can skip The Searcher imo and just go right to The Hunter. I think I remember reading in an interview or early review, it could practically be a standalone. Of course there's a little backstory you'll miss but The Searcher was a slog-- pains me to say it! 🙈
You are the second person to say that about The Searcher! Is it bad that kind of makes me want to read it to really see how bad it is?? lol I love that you are a French completist hell yeah!
First of all fantastic list!!! Secondly, have you read any of Paul Tremblay’s other books? His new one sounds good but I’ve been skeptical about him since I read The Cabin at the End of the World and A Head Full of Ghosts both of which I did not like, I’d to hear your thoughts though.
I am personally excited for both King Nyx and the Familiar (because Bardugo is one of the only fantasy authors I’ll read, she never misses) I am also so so so excited for Martyr! (!) It sounds very strange and all over the place which I love.
I think they are both out already by The Storm We Made by Vanessa Chang I think will be devastating and I’m beyond excited, also The Mayor of Maxwell Street is historical fiction that looks so so good. Also, (someone stop me before Substack cuts me off in the comments) but Where You End by Abbott Kahler I hope will be what I wanted out of Bunny.
Kind of insane how many (assumed) good books are coming out this year I do hope they all live up to their expectations!!
I haven't read any Tremblay yet, none of the storylines grabbed me enough until this one. I did see the film adaptation of Cabin and liked it ok. The book could be terrible but I am willing to try (maybe start with a Libby rental first). Where You End sounds fascinating!! If half of these live up to expectations I will take that as a win!
Schitt’s Creek as a book. I AM SOLD.
Right???
Same!!

It sounds so utterly wild I'm very much looking forward to Time of the Flies! I know James and Ministry will be hits I just know it.
James sounds phenom too 💥
Omg 😂 very flammable episode of Hoarders took me out
I was all hopped up on coffee when I wrote that one lol

I started Empire of Pain on audio but the library took it back before I could get very far 😒. Three good books at once sounds like a book miracle!!
Agreed! Empire of pain has been a slow one for me. It’s good but I can’t just sit and read it for hours!

Ah, what a good list of 2024 releases! I already read and loved Dolly Alderton's new one and I'm really looking forward to the new Tana French!
Dolly is so amazing!!
Time of the flies now firmly on my TBR list 👌🏼💥
I see a relaxed buddy read in our future!!
Looking closely at your recommendations. And the link was heartwrenching.
wasnt that wonderful? I'm so glad I found Mary's writing on Notes
