Okay: I loved this. I recently started reading *The Stand* because I'm obsessed with zombie-end-of-world stories. (My favorite is McCarthy's The Road, which has no zombies but has loads of human evil that are rendered so perfectly that I cannot start re-reading page one without re-reading the entire book in one sitting.)

I got stuck on the early chapters of the man who goes back to his mother's house after going broke. Is he the devil? Does he become some kind of "sold his soul" figure? I LOVED the first few chapters and then this threw me wayside. I am eager to get back to it, though. You're giving me the strength to do so!
