i’m impressed by how structured your reading is, in a sense—or at least committed to your own homework. looking forward to all the end results of these projects.
The best thing I read in May was The Black Jacobins. WOW.
The Ballad of Black Tom sounds incredible. Also adding Fever Dream to my TBR. We just watched Sinners last night and LOVED it. I especially loved that Buddy Guy was in it! (Older Sammie.)
Currently reading The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter my Carson McCullers and I like it so far (only a couple of chapters in) but I've heard great things all around!
Sinners was incredible right!!! and I remember loving Heart is a Lonely Hunter but its been quite a while, very interested in your thoughts when you finish.
My Kindle book has been Chain-Gang All Stars, but I’m about to make it a NRN, because not a good scene for me right before bed.
And don’t be mad but I had a Neil Gaiman novel (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) on my TBR shelf that someone gifted to me before we found out he was likely scum. And I’m going to read it 🫣. And then be done with him.
But then how will I get a cute pair of glasses to wear around with my contacts 😫😂the only Gaiman I’ve ever been able to get through is Coraline, he’s not a writer for me but I think you should read one and see how it makes you feel knowing what you know.
So much I love in this newsletter!! Do you give a list of books in your 'horror for snobs' project in any past newsletters? Would love to see it! & love that you're recommending the LaValle as a Sinners hangover cure--The Changeling by him is on my shelf and I'm really planning/hoping to finally pick it up this summer. And the term "treadmill book"... genius; mine right now is the new Emily Henry! and my more challenging current read is argentine author Aurora Venturini's We, the Castertas! Finished and felt so moved by her novel Cousins earlier this spring
I have a library copy of Fever Dream languishing on my nightstand! I might have to pick it up before returning it. And I also usually have a treadmill book and then a more serious (or underlineable) book.
Cheers to sober husbands who allow us to write about them 🤣!
Long live the short book while the longer ones are taking too much time.
Hear hear ✊

It’s really been because otherwise I have analysis paralysis and can’t pick a book to read for the life of me 😂
I looooooved fever dream!!! which schweblin did you order? I hope it was Little Eyes, that’s one of my all time faves!
Yes Little Eyes!!!!! Mostly because I liked the panda UK cover 😂
Ok that cover is amazing but i think you will love the book too!!!
You need to the unicorn pens.

SO GOOD, I think I'm going to watch it again. I'll let you know what I think when I finish THIALH 💘
LOVE Samanta Schweblin and Mariana Enriquez!
Favorite work by Schweblin is MOUTHFUL OF BIRDS, loved every single story.
Favorite work by Enriquez is A SUNNY PLACE FOR SHADY PEOPLE.
along with Layla Martinez these women are quickly becoming my absolute favorite strange and unusual authors
Haven't read Martinez yet, putting a library hold in now
Having a treadmill book is so real.
It’s necessary
Blue light glasses were debunked within the last few years. Spend your money instead on eyedrops due to not blinking as much: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/are-blue-light-blocking-glasses-a-must-have

oh, by all means, get the cute glasses…with pointless lenses! a fabulous accessory 🔥.
I’ve read Good Omens and Stardust, so I’m not new to Gaiman and I enjoyed both…just making this next one my last foray, I think. <sigh>…
It is quite unfortunate these artists keeping ruining their art with terrible behavior
100%. Mostly men, too 🙄
Thanks for the shout-out!
