Agree about ‘The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store’ it sounds so good! It doesn’t come out until November in the UK so if you read it before then I’ll be eagerly waiting for your thoughts!
OMG - The HOLIDAY! The INTERN! I had no idea these were Nancy Meyers films and I adored them. You’ve described their appeal perfectly.
I am not a fan of book reviews (I don’t like knowing much about a book, other than that it’s well-written or compelling), but I love book *recommendations* by people whose taste and judgment I trust. So I read your posts a little like Swiss cheese - I am thoroughly entertained and excited by everything that surrounds the review. Your description of Ann Patchett leading up to the actual reviews have me sold. And I am going to start with Bel Canto as you suggest.
You are now the second person in the span of a few days who has recommended Philadelphia, so I have to give that a go. I’m in the middle of Barry, which I’ve enjoyed (love Bill Hader and my childhood crush - The Fonz! - Henry Winkler). I’m also watching Only Murders in the Building and And Just Like That. Both satisfying, but not earth-shattering.
If you haven’t already, watch Waco with Taylor Kitsch and Michael Shannon. It’s a few years old now, but I couldn’t turn away from it.
Waco has been on my list and just haven't gotten around to it but sounds like I might need to bump it up. Always Sunny - fair warning - is an absolutely ridiculous show but its funny so I hope its your humor. And very interesting take on the recommendations versus reviews - maybe I need a bit more general recs in the newsletter for people who feel the same. Thanks for being here Amy :)
My ex-boyfriend recommended Always Sunny and we have similar senses of humor, so I’ll definitely check it out and report back :) Also, in the words of Billy Joel, “don’t go changin’ (your recommendations) to try to please me” 🎶 . I LOVE your newsletter. It’s just a weird quirk that I have. I also despise when actors are interviewed and are asked to speak about their characters, and they indulge. I don’t know why but I find it so cringe. Like “Mary is a woman who knows what she wants, but yet is slightly insecure around men.” Ewww, I can’t! 🙄😣
thats actually hilarious and weird when you think about it... authors do that too. Like you made that person up what do you mean they like Egos for breakfast??
Somehow I've never read a single Ann Patchett book, so I really appreciate this guide! Bel Canto is on hold now and I've got the Dutch Library on my kindle, thank you. Gilmore Girls is my comfort watch. I was late to the party on that show and then basically watched it over and over every year for a few years.

They make you wait so long, how rude! And I'm honored to share my thoughts with you, I will bump it up on the priority list :)
I’m excited and honored to be the first restack! Thanks so much!!
You deserve it! I look forward to your posts every time :)

ah Gilmore Girls is also a forever comfort watch!! Let me know what you think of Patchett, I think you will appreciate her style of writing
The HP audiobooks are my go-to comfort when I need it. I always load them up when I'm flying because I get anxious haha. They help so much!
YES me too!! If I need to sleep I just put one on and its like your grandpa reading you a bedtime story
