My fave part: “There really is something for everyone who likes the exact same books as me.” 😂🤣

at this point I'm not even pretending to care about books I have no interest in. 😂

Totes! I also love how this statement is so unapologetic about this being YOUR bookstack newsletter 🔥

I just finished The Morning Star and I’m completely hooked! Now I’m diving into the whole series, so I can’t wait for the next book to drop. I’m also adding Playground, The Empusium, and of course The City and Its Uncertain Walls to my TBR—thanks for the stellar recs! 📚✨

I am so excited for fall, for fall reading, for so many of these new books that are coming out!

Here to confirm that Small Rain and Scaffolding are 1000% worth the hype! I reviewed Scaffolding in my July roundup and Small Rain in my August roundup, and I interviewed Lauren Elkin about her reading life (interview will go up next week). All of that to say - I AM A HUGE FAN!

I have only ready Normal People by Sally Rooney (which I totally ADORED) but for some reason, I am feeling so resistant to pick up Intermezzo... The drawn out influencer campaign on TikTok has me feeling really stubborn about it, which I realize is so hypocritical given that I am technically book-influencer adjacent myself. Ok. I talked myself through this, I will read it.

The November release of Didion & Babitz is also (obv) on my radar. I hope that our October Didion project works well and I am left off with even more enthusiasm for JD, hoping for no burnout.

me too!! I loved your reviews on those two, it put Small Rain on my radar. and AN INTERVIEW HELL YES. cant wait.

the number of people posting with their ARCs of Intermezzo has definitely soured me on the book, not because I am jealous but because I am already tired of seeing the cover lol yes to influencer adjacent

I really wonder about the Didion & Babitz, the angle sounds interesting but also like it could be very overdone - we will see!

Loved reading through this anticipated list. I listened to William last weekend so you'll have to reach if you get around to it.

ok JUST finished William last night! what did you think???

It was a like but not a love. That ending though! Definitely bumped up my overall feelings.

I fully agree - I was hoping for a bit more substance, more layers to the story, but the ending was redeeming!

RIGHT. I am forcing myself to pare it way down to the ones I actually want to read. LIKE WAY DOWN.

Really excited for the new Jackson Brodie! I just love Kate Atkinson. My most anticipated fall release is absolutely the new Louise Erdrich, especially since I've been reading a bunch of her backlist this year.

Expand full comment

Brodie is a detective like no other, truly i need to continue the series! and I had the Erdrich on my radar but I havent read anything from her in so long I wasnt sure this would be the one for me. Do you have a favorite of hers so far?

Expand full comment

From this year, it's probably The Plague of Doves? But if you haven't read Love Medicine, that to me is one of her essential books and unlocks an entire series you can continue with if you want.

This is so great, thanks for putting it together! Many of the translated titles were not on my tbr, I added If Only. I'm excited for the Murakami and The Third Realm. Other new releases I'm looking forward to are Meditations for Mortals by Oliver Burkman, Pony Confidential by Christina Lynch and backlist - The Secret History

There are a ton of great new releases coming out! I'm obviously excited for Sally Rooney but also M. L. Rio's book and a few new memoirs -- Gilmore Girls and the Didion book. I'm waiting to see if my library gets any of these. Otherwise I'll be waiting a year for the paperbacks to come out.

I struggled with We Are Villains but this new one sounds very very good!! and i feel you, i am refusing to buy hardbacks unless its extremely important to read immediately. we need to start a petition for paperback /hardback simultaneous release

Slowly getting through this list with SOOO much delight!!!! My TBR is in SHAMBLES because of you AND I LOVE IT 🥰😍 Thank you thank you
